The Life Cycle of Compost

When you are cooking on a ship for 400 there is a lot of compost. The food comes in large baskets or boxes to the galley.

The salads are made and the meals are prepped. 4 large barrels are filled in a two day period with scraps.
Once filled they are put aside. They await pickup in the reception area to the Tenegar agriculture site in Liberia where the ship has an experimental farm and several other projects.
They are hauled in landrovers to the site...

And dumped into the compost (mesh cage in background). A new compost hole is being dug. Finally they are added to the soil or to a series of small compost containers with planters surrounding them (above).
