Mercy Ship in Tenerife, Canary Islands

The Mercy Ship (Africa Mercy) was docked in Santa Cruz for a week while we had the opportunity to roam around the island.

Spain has generously allowed Mercy Ships free port stay for the two months in the Canary Islands. Normal cost are $3000/day. The catch was we had to be at the end the really long dock. It took 20 minutes to walk to the end.

A shot standing beside the ship looking up the dock where we walked into town.

I love red.

I love chains too? At least well arranged and coloured ones.

A small valley in Santa Cruz as seen from the ship.

The gangway. At the top we have a photo ID swipe card that allows us to board the ship. The ship has a long term contract to hire 4 Gurkhas who man the gangway and secure all entry.

The top deck gives a view of the US satelite that allows us internet and phone calls on board.

Of course these perks come with drawbacks.

Over the last week all the vehicles were loaded on board by two cranes to the top deck.
