The Back Roof is Now Off
The back roof is off and the framing for the new roof is starting. A
metal beam has been placed at the apex of the roof and another in this
photo where the roof will start to slant down towards the gutter. The
side brick walls (party walls) will be built up to meet this metal
beam. You can see it juts out of the framing so it will be built into
the brick wall.
The
party wall on one side has a loft already existing. They have built
right down on the middle of the party wall without building it up,
making it difficult for us to manuveur our loft up. What has been
agreed is that we can remove their side roof tiles (as seen above) and
build up a single layer of bricks so that we get the look of the
mansard loft. They we tie in their roof to the wall to make sure there
is no leaking.
A better picture of the whole thing. The chimney on the right has been dismantled as well.
A
better view of the room looking out towards the neighbours who have no
existing loft. The framing stops before the end of the wall and then
will slant down towards the edge with the windows jutting straight out.
A very nice period look.
Standing
in the space that will be the bathroom looking towards the front of the
house. On the right where it looks like rubble will be the staircase
down which will sit above the lower staircase going to the main floor.
A better view.
Such a nice room.
The brick layer has been delayed on another job so the framing goes on. The brick wall will follow the slant of the room.
