Yes, folks...this is the only effective mask that actually keeps most of the germs out. It took the hospital half an hour just to properly fit it to each staff member.

I know...not that cheery! The UK papers today opened with talk of the possibility of mass graves if the death toll reached out of control proportions.

From what I understand, after the SARS outbreak and the media over that Canada has decided to not make a big deal of the swine flu in the news. But numbers are highest at the moment in the UK, not Canada.
Apparently the elderly are not vulnerable because N1H1 (swine flu) hit after WWII giving them antibodies. Living in London makes you more vulnerable though. I take the tube with one million other people every day and wash my hands immediately after getting off.

I think Nigel looks rather.....ready for the worst. Sexy? I think there is an aspect of that.
It reminds me of when I was fitted for a similar mask because I was part of a small group being trained as an emergency First Responders to Disaster crew. (my choice, by the way.) If Nigel is sexy, then I must also look sexy with mine on. I'll have to show George and get his opinion. :D

i got to help out in the swine flu diversion clinic at my hospital earlier this year. i did a 7 hour shift one day and was all ready for the worried, wheezing, coughing, spluttering hordes and masses and had prepared myself for innundation. i had 1 patient in 7 hours. took me a whole 20 minutes. i think he had man flu. i was very disappointed.
Interesting, Ruth. Was that in Australia or Canada? They are suggesting it may mutate and become crazy in the UK over the winter season...the traditional season for flu. All of this you already know, but I will say it for the benefit of the newless Canadians. Ha ha!

My experience is in Australia where we have just had our winter/flu season. i've been working in the state of victoria where the most cases of swine flu have been picked up. so far the only deaths have been in people already vulnerable.
now everyone here is over it and all the flu clinics have been disbanded.
